This policy explains what we do with personal information when you use our event pages, register for a Start Over event, buy a ticket, or attend one. It covers every Start Over live and online event, wherever it is held. It is written to be read, not to be survived, so it is in plain English.
If you applied to become a co-author in the Start Over Movement Book Series, a separate policy covers that. This one is about the events.
The data controller responsible for your personal information is:
START OVER MOVEMENT HOLDINGS LTD
5 Railway Terrace, Buxton, Derbyshire, SK17 7AW
Registered in England and Wales, company number 16905154
Email: [email protected]
In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean START OVER MOVEMENT HOLDINGS LTD.
We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office as a data controller, registration number ZC234946, and pay the data protection fee.
Information you give us when you register. The event pages carry a registration form. When you submit it we receive:
Information you give us when you claim a free place. General Admission places are free with a copy of the Start Over book. To claim one you upload proof of your book purchase, such as a receipt or order confirmation. We use it to verify the purchase and then to issue your place.
Information you give us when you buy a VIP or Super VIP ticket. When you buy a ticket we receive your name, email address and the details of what you bought. Your card details go directly to our payment provider and are entered on their secure payment form. We never see, handle or store your full card number. We receive confirmation that the payment succeeded, the amount, the currency and the last four digits of the card.
Information about your attendance. For online events, the platform that streams the event receives your name and email address so it can let you in and so we know who attended. For in person events we hold your name on the door list.
Anything you send us. If you email us or reply to a message, we hold whatever you choose to put in it.
Information collected automatically. Some technical information reaches the companies that serve our pages, whether or not you consent to anything:
Information collected only if you consent. Our event pages show a cookie banner. Nothing in this group runs unless you click "Accept All":
If you click "Reject Non-Essential", neither loads and neither receives anything. The Cookies section below explains this in more detail.
Nothing non-essential runs until you choose. When you first arrive on an event page you see a cookie banner. Until you click "Accept All", no advertising or analytics cookie is set and no advertising or analytics script is loaded.
Strictly necessary storage. We store your cookie choice in your browser's local storage so we do not ask you again on every page. Our CRM and form provider also sets what it needs to make the registration form work and to run its anti-spam check. These are essential, so they do not require your consent.
Marketing and analytics cookies, set only if you click "Accept All".
_fbp and _fbc. They measure how our Facebook and Instagram advertising performs and help us show relevant ads._clck and _clsk. They give us anonymised session and heatmap analytics showing how visitors use the page. How to change your mind. Clear the cookies and site data for this site in your browser, then reload the page. The banner comes back and you can choose again. You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time, though some essential features may then stop working.
Your consent choice is remembered across the whole of this website, so accepting or rejecting on one page covers the others.
Under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, and under the EU GDPR where it applies to you, we must have a lawful basis for using your personal data. We use yours to:
The registration form carries a tick box confirming that, by giving us your email address and phone number, you agree to receive emails and text messages from us about Start Over events, the Book Series and related opportunities. We only send these if you ticked that box.
You can stop either or both at any time. Use the unsubscribe link in any marketing email, reply STOP to any text message, or email [email protected] and tell us which you want to stop. We will action it. You have an absolute right to object to direct marketing and you do not have to give a reason.
Stopping marketing does not stop us contacting you about an event you have actually registered for or bought a ticket to. We still need to send you joining details, venue information and any changes.
When you give us your phone number, we, or the host's team acting for us, may call you or send you text messages about the event you registered for or bought a ticket to. For example, to confirm your place, remind you of the date and time, or tell you about any changes.
If you would rather we did not call you, tell us by emailing [email protected] and we will contact you by email and text only. You can also reply STOP to any text message. Message and data rates may apply.
We do not sell your personal data and we do not share it for other organisations' marketing. We share it only with:
Several of the providers named above are based in, or process data in, the United States. That includes our CRM platform, our payment provider, the analytics providers and the platform that hosts our online events.
Where personal data leaves the UK we rely on the safeguards permitted by UK data protection law, which depending on the provider means UK adequacy regulations covering the country concerned, or contractual safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the Standard Contractual Clauses.
Where personal data leaves the EEA we rely on the corresponding safeguards under the EU GDPR, which means an adequacy decision covering the country concerned, or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
If you would like more detail on the safeguards used for a particular provider, ask us.
We keep your registration and contact details for as long as we need them for the purpose you gave them to us for, which means through the event you registered for, and for as long as you remain subscribed to our emails or text messages.
Records of ticket purchases are kept for six years after the end of the tax year they fall in, because tax law requires it.
After that we keep only what we are required to keep for legal, tax or regulatory reasons, and for the periods those rules set. You can ask us to delete your data at any time, and we will do so unless we are legally required to retain it.
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to keep your information secure, including limiting who can see it and using established third-party platforms that maintain their own security controls. Card payments are handled entirely by our payment provider on their own secure pages, so card numbers never reach our systems. No transmission over the internet can be guaranteed completely secure, but we take our obligations seriously and we will handle any personal data breach in line with the law.
Under UK and EU data protection law you have the right to:
To exercise any of these, email [email protected]. We will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK regulator, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. If you are in the EEA you can instead complain to the supervisory authority in the country where you live or work. We would rather you gave us the chance to put it right first, but it is your right either way.
Our events are for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18, and our Terms and Conditions require ticket holders and registrants to be at least 18. If you believe a child has given us their information, email us and we will delete it.
Our pages link out to other websites, including Amazon store pages for the books and our payment provider's checkout. Once you follow one of those links you are on someone else's website, under their terms and their privacy policy. We are not responsible for their content or their handling of your data, so please read their policies before sharing anything with them.
We may update this policy. The current version is always the one on this page, with the "Last updated" date at the top. If we make a change that materially affects how we use your personal data, we will take reasonable steps to tell you.
For anything to do with your personal data, email [email protected], or write to START OVER MOVEMENT HOLDINGS LTD, 5 Railway Terrace, Buxton, Derbyshire, SK17 7AW.
