Casting applications. Last updated: 3 September 2026
This policy explains what we do with your personal information when you apply to take part in THE COMEBACK, a Start Over television documentary project. It covers the casting application form and anything you send us as part of applying. It is written to be read, not survived, so it is in plain English.
Two other policies cover different things on this website. If you registered for a Start Over live or online event, or bought a ticket, the events privacy policy covers that. If you applied to become a co-author in the Start Over Movement Book Series, a separate policy covers that. This one is only about casting.

In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean START OVER MOVEMENT HOLDINGS LTD.
We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office as a data controller, registration number ZC234946, and pay the data protection fee.
Applying happens in two steps, and a different company handles each one. It is worth knowing which is which.
Step one, on this website. You leave your contact details on a short form so that we can send you the full application. At this step we receive only:
Nothing about your story is asked for at this step. That form is provided by our CRM platform, GoHighLevel.
Step two, the full application. We email you a link to the application form itself, which is a separate site run for us by Typeform. It is long, and it is where the substance of your application lives. When you submit it we receive:
Your story. Most of that second form is your story, in your own words. It asks what the biggest setback, loss or adversity of your life was, what your lowest point was, what it did to you, why you decided to turn things around, how you rebuilt, where you are now, and why your story deserves to be seen. Whatever you choose to write in those answers, we hold.
If you complete step one and never complete step two, we hold nothing but your contact details, and you can ask us to delete them at any time.
Anything else you send us. If you email us, or reply to a message from us, we hold whatever you choose to put in it.
Technical information. Some technical information reaches the companies that serve our pages and our form, such as your IP address, browser and device type. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies on the casting page, and there is no advertising pixel or analytics tracking on it. The application form is a separate website run by Typeform, which sets the cookies it needs to make the form work, and which runs an automated check using Google reCAPTCHA to confirm that submissions come from a person rather than a bot. That check sends your IP address and information about how you use the form to Google. Typeform's own privacy and cookie policies cover what happens while you are on that form, alongside this notice.
This section matters more than any other, so please read it.
The questions we ask invite you to talk about the hardest parts of your life. Depending on your story, your answers may reveal things the law treats as especially sensitive, called "special category" information. That can include information about your physical or mental health, addiction and recovery, disability, your religious or philosophical beliefs, your racial or ethnic origin, your sex life or sexual orientation. Your story may also touch on criminal offences, whether committed by you or against you.
We only hold that information because you have chosen to give it to us, and we ask for your explicit consent to do so. That is the legal basis we rely on for it, under Article 9(2)(a) of the UK GDPR.
What that means in practice:
If you would rather not put something sensitive in a web form, you can apply with the outline of your story and tell us the rest later, in person, if you are shortlisted.
We do not add you to a marketing list because you applied. If you want to hear from Start Over generally, that is a separate choice you make separately.
We do not sell your information. We do not use it for advertising. We do not share your story with anyone outside the list above without asking you first.
Both companies that handle your information are outside the UK, in different places.
Your story is held in Spain. The full application form is provided by TYPEFORM, S.L., which is based in Barcelona. Spain is covered by the UK's adequacy regulations, which means personal data can be sent there from the UK without any further safeguard being needed.
Your contact details go to the United States. Our CRM platform, GoHighLevel, is a US company. That transfer is made under the safeguards permitted by UK data protection law, being the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where the receiving company is certified under it, and the International Data Transfer Addendum to the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses where it is not.
Typeform may also process information from other countries as part of running its service, and the bot check described above sends technical information to Google, under the same kinds of safeguard. You can ask us which safeguard applies to any of them.
If you are in the EEA, the equivalent protections apply under the EU GDPR.
Being shortlisted is not the same as being cast, and applying is not a promise of anything.
If your story is shortlisted, someone from the casting team will contact you by email or phone to talk further, and may ask for more detail. If you are then selected to take part, you will receive separate participation, consent, production and filming agreements, and you will have the chance to read them and take advice before you sign anything.
Nothing you send in your application is filmed, broadcast, published or distributed. Your application is used to decide whether to talk to you further, and for nothing else.
Any filming, and any broadcast, only ever happens under the separate agreements described above, which you would sign first.
We keep applications for 12 months from the close of casting, and then delete them.
If you ask us to delete your application sooner, we will.
If you are selected to take part, the information needed for the production is kept under the separate participation and consent agreements, which set out their own periods.
Your application is held in the form provider's systems, which are access controlled and encrypted in transit. Access is limited to the people who need it to run the casting process. We do not keep copies of applications on personal devices.
No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise. If something goes wrong that puts your rights at risk, we will tell you and the Information Commissioner's Office as the law requires.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK regulator, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. If you are in the EEA you can instead complain to the supervisory authority in the country where you live or work. We would rather you gave us the chance to put it right first, but it is your right either way.
This casting application is open to people aged 18 or over only. We do not knowingly accept applications from anyone under 18. If we learn that an application has come from someone under 18, we delete it.
Our pages link to other websites, including the platforms that carry our previous programmes. This policy does not cover those websites, and we are not responsible for how they handle your information. Their own policies apply.
If we change how we handle casting applications, we will update this policy and change the date at the top. If the change is significant, and we still hold your application, we will tell you.
